“Anything for a fan, darling,” I drawled, and scribbled my name on her plaster cast.

Molly rushed over, looking like all of her birthdays and Christmases had come at once. “I don’t believe it. I don’t BELIEVE IT!”

There’s only one thing that could possibly get Molly this excited, apart from a declaration of love from Liam, and that’s something to do with singing. Shenice and I looked at each other. “You got scouted!” we burst out at exactly the same moment.

“YES!” Molly shrieked. “Miss Skelly’s agent wants to talk about about signing me up! He thinks I’ve got a bright future in musical theatre.”

  “No way!” Shenice breathed.

“Yes way!” I yelled, high-fiving both of them.

My family hurried over to congratulate us. “Well done,” Mum said, planting a big squashy kiss on my cheek before I could stop her. “We’re so proud of you.”

“Another musical prodigy,” Dad said, giving me a quick squeeze. “If Joshua and Ethel are any good we could be Windsor’s answer to the Von Trapp family.”

Liam rolled his eyes. “I suppose you didn’t totally suck.” He glanced over at Molly, who was talking to her parents and Miss Skelly. “Molly was pretty good, though.”

WOW – coming from Liam that was practically a compliment. And a double win for Molly, because he’d remembered her name AND noticed how amazing she’d been. I filed it away to tell her later. “Thanks for the cuddly toy, Mum.”

  She frowned. “What cuddly toy?”

I rolled my eyes. “The one you left in the dressing room. So cute.”

Mum shook her head. “Sorry, Cassie, it wasn’t me. Sounds like you’ve got a mystery admirer.”

And then Nathan was standing next to me, shifting from one foot to the other.

“It was from me. I hope you liked it,” he said, looking about as shy and uncomfortable as I’d ever seen him. “It was my way of saying sorry for being a green-eyed monster.”

Suddenly everything made sense. “I loved it,” I said, smiling. “Thank you.”

His face lit up. “Good. And well done. For everything. You really pulled it off.”

  “It wasn’t bad, was it?”

He nodded. “It was great. You were great.” His eyes shone. “Amazing, actually.”

“Thanks,” I said, beaming back at him.

And right at that moment, I didn’t think anything could be better. Shen hadn’t played her dream role but she’d still got the boy, although I’m sure she could have done without the broken leg. It looked like Molly was on her way to superstardom and me – well, I might have faked it and fooled the audience into buying the illusion, but I’d faced my fear and survived. And I hadn’t even thrown up once. I’m not sure acting is really my thing, and singing definitely isn’t, but one way or another I had a lot of fun sharing the limelight with my besties. In fact, this summer hasn’t been the total disaster I thought it would be. Predicting the future isn’t my big talent either.

But you know what? Being a BFF just might be!
